The National Pest Management Association shares why pest control professionals are your best defense heading into peak pest season
National Pest Management Month, officially recognized by Chase’s Calendar of Events, is a timely reminder of the essential role pest control professionals play in protecting public health, homes, and food. As pests become more active this spring, the National Pest Management Association (NPMA) is reminding homeowners to stay proactive, and to know when to call in the pros.
A recent NPMA survey conducted online by The Harris Poll found that 36% of Americans take preventive measures against pests. But according to Dr. Jim Fredericks, Senior Vice President of Public Affairs at NPMA, prevention can only go so far.
“Proactive steps are important and a great first step, but really keeping your health and home safe is two-part,” said Fredericks. “Even the most well-maintained properties can fall victim to hidden infestations or pest entry points that are difficult to detect. That’s where qualified professionals come in. They have the training and tools to identify and address pest issues early, saving homeowners time and money and providing peace of mind.”
Coupled with professional inspections, NPMA recommends these simple steps to reduce the risk of pest problems:
- Sealing cracks and gaps on the exterior of the home, including entry points for utilities and pipes.
- Trimming grass, shrubbery, and trees near the home.
- Keeping basements, attics, and crawl spaces well-ventilated and dry.
- Storing food in airtight containers and disposing of garbage regularly.

Survey Methodology
This survey was conducted online within the United States by The Harris Poll on behalf of NPMA between February 10 -12, 2025 among 2,076 U.S. adults ages 18+. The sampling precision of Harris online polls is measured by using a Bayesian credible interval. For this study, the sample data is accurate to within +/- 2.5 percentage points using a 95% confidence level. For complete survey methodology, please contact NPMATeam@vaultcommunications.com.
